In case you're one of those people who believes all the band has to do is to get gigs then turn up on the night and rock out....
You'd better think again.
As anyone who's ever played to an empty house will tell you, in the early days of a band at least, you've got to work at getting an audience. Here's a useful post to remind us all that:
1. All band members should take an active role in trying to get gigs
2. Flyers/posters (read: "low cost advertsising") are essential for any gig
3. Press releases will build not just audience numbers but a band's credibility over time
4. Take advantage of free internet gig-listing sites.
Here's the post, see what you think:

I think that more bands need to understand this point. The bigger the crowd, the more likely you will get a return engagement. The more business you generate at one venue will increase your ability to get other venues. I think every band does posters, and am wondering if direct mail might be worth looking into. Our band has had limited success with the online gig listings, but Facebook has done wonders.
